Daily Update for June 5 and the Weekend

      • Special events, demonstrations, exhibits, receptions and more are planned by local galleries participating in the First Friday Art Walk Fredericksburg celebration today from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

      • The Willow City Community Club will meet tonight at 6:45 p.m. at the Willow City School Building/Community Center. Members are encouraged to bring finger foods and snacks for the light meal to be served at 6:45 p.m. A short business meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m., followed by games of “42” dominoes and socializing.

      • Graduation ceremonies will be held at 8 p.m. tonight in the FHS Stadium for the Fredericksburg High School Class of 2015. Leading the class are Samuel Studebaker, valedictorian, and Dorothy Walch, salutatorian.

      • Graduation ceremonies at Harper High School will also be held tonight. The ceremony begins at 7 p.m. in the Harper Gym. Leading the class are Jordan White, valedictorian, and Brittany Sanders, salutatorian.

      • Greater Life Christian Center will have special services on Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday morning. The services on Friday and Saturday evenings will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday morning’s service will begin at 10:15 a.m. Dale Cohen, a former Rabbi, will be the special speaker at each of these services. Cohen was born and raised in Israel, and now resides in the Dallas area. 

      • Custom cars, classics and rods will be showcased on Saturday at Marktplatz as part of the 11th Annual Masonic Open Car Show hosted by the Fredericksburg Masonic Lodge No. 794. All types of vehicles will be displayed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in all three pavilions on Marktplatz as well as the adjacent sidewalks. There is no admission charge for the general public. Other activities include food and beverages for sale, live entertainment, a silent auction, prize drawing and presentation of trophies.

      • A chance to fish, learn more about the sport and win prizes will be offered at the annual Fishing Day from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday at Stonewall. The LBJ State Park and Historic Site at Stonewall in conjunction with the Kerrville Walmart will host the clinic. The event will be held in the state park on the banks of the Pedernales River at the group picnic area on Ranch Road 1.

      • Memorial Presbyterian Church will host six sessions over three Saturdays titled “Living to the Last with Autonomy, Dignity and Joy.” These classes will be held on three consecutive Saturdays — June 6, June 13 and June 20 — from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Each person who registers will receive a notebook with information and worksheets for personal use. There will be a box lunch provided, as well. Cost for all three sessions is $25.

      • Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park will continue its outdoor summertime movie series “Movies Under the Stars” on Saturday with a screening of the movie “Apollo 13” at the LBJ Ranch, near Stonewall. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and snacks for the movie, which begins at dusk. The program is free of charge. Entry to the LBJ Ranch is located off U.S. Highway 290, onto Ranch Road 1. Parking is available on the airstrip taxiway adjacent to the movie site.

      • The Rev. Setan and Randa Lee will speak at 10:15 a.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church. The Lees, founders of the non-profit organization, Transform Asia, led a group of 10 missionaries on a three-day mission trip to give a women's conference in Cambodia. They will be speaking at Hill Country Evangelical Free Church on June 14.

      • The Crabapple Community Club will meet at 2:30 p.m., Sunday. The hosts will provide barbecue and members are asked to bring a side dish or dessert. “42” domino games will be played. 

      • An ice cream social honoring the Rev. Dr. Jason Fry will be held on Sunday from 4-6 p.m. at the Fredericksburg United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Fry, the current senior pastor of FUMC, has been appointed to Grace United Methodist Church in the Calallen area of Corpus Christi by the Rio Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church, effective July 1. His last service at the local church is Sunday.
