News

      • The Fredericksburg City Council will hold their next regular meeting at 6 p.m. tonight at the Gillespie County Law Enforcement Center. Topics for discussion include hotel occupancy tax distributions, affordable housing incentives, city health insurance issues and city manager performance goals. The council will also hold a public hearing to rezone approximately 7.3 acres of land from R-1 Residential to C-2 Commercial and R-3 Multi-Family Residential fronting on North Adams Street.

      • Today is the deadline for property owners to pay their 2014 taxes. Taxes must be paid either in person in Tax Assessor-Collector Marissa Weinheimer’s office (Room 104) in the Gillespie County Courthouse or through the mail. For in-person payments, the tax assessor-collector’s office is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mail-in payments must be postmarked no later than Feb. 2.

      • The local chapter of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees will meet at Andy’s Steak and Seafood Grille today at 11:30 a.m. to host the District 15 Conference. Approximately 40 members will attend from four chapters in Central Texas, including Kingsland-Highland Lakes, Austin, Kerrville and Fredericksburg.

     • Hill Country Astronomers will meet at 6:30 p.m. tonight in the HEB meeting room at the Hill Country University Center. Former shuttle astronaut Tom Henricks’ program will show what it is like to be a NASA Space Shuttle astronaut through video taken in the cockpit during launch and landing followed by pictures of the Earth from space and scenes of life aboard the Shuttle. There will be time for questions and answers following his presentation.

      • Stonewall Community Cemetery Association will have its annual meeting tonight at 7 p.m. at St. Thomas Hall in Stonewall. All lot holders and persons interested in the development and maintenance of the cemetery are invited to attend.

     • Friends of Gillespie County Country Schools will meet tonight at 7 p.m. at the Central Texas Electric Cooperative building.

 
Sports

      • Fredericksburg High School varsity girls’ basketball team defeated Hondo, 58-48, on Friday night.

      • FHS varsity boys' basketball team defeated Hondo, 54-34, on Friday night.
 
      • FHS girls soccer defeated Bandera, 4-1, in their District 28-4A opener on Friday.

      • Fredericksburg Middle School seventh and eighth grade girls' and boys' basketball teams will play their final games of the season tonight against Hondo. The boys will play at home in the FHS Gym while the girls will be on the road. The B games are at 5 p.m. and the A games at 6 p.m.

       • Harper Junior High boys' and girls' basketball teams will play Johnson City tonight. The boys will be on the road and the girls will play at home. Games start at 5 p.m.

     • Heritage Logic girls' and boys' basketball teams will travel to play San Antonio FEAST tonight starting at 4:30 p.m. with the girls followed by the boys' B team at 5:30 p.m. and the boys' A team at 6:30 p.m.
