News 

      • Fredericksburg United Methodist Church will host a preliminary meeting for the World Day of Prayer at 10 a.m. today at the church. World Day of Prayer will be on March 6. FUMC will be the host church for local celebration of the event.

      • Rheingold Community Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. tonight at the Rheingold School. Organizers will provide stew, and they ask that members bring sandwiches, a side dish or dessert. After a business meeting beginning at 7:30 p.m., they will play 42 dominoes.

      • The Hill Country Film Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering, encouraging and promoting independent film production, is partnering with Hoffman Haus and Otto’s German Bistro for its third annual EAT. DRINK. BE INSPIRED. event tonight. All of the tickets are sold for the event, which benefits the Hill Country Film Society.

      • Zonta Club of Fredericksburg is accepting entries for the Amelia Earhart Essay Contest through Saturday. The contest is open to Gillespie County girls ages 12 to 18 years.

      • The City of Fredericksburg will host the first of two rabies vaccination clinics from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday at the Consolidated Warehouse. Vaccines will be administered by veterinarians, Dr. Travis Halfman and Dr. Neil Eckert. The cost of the rabies vaccine is $8 per dog or cat. Other canine and feline vaccinations will be available at a discounted rate. Additionally, microchips are available for $10. Pet owners may also purchase city license tags for dogs and cats at the clinic. For neutered or spayed animals, the cost is $5 for an annual license or $25 for a lifetime license. Non-neutered and non-spayed animals’ fee is $10 annually. A second clinic will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Feb. 7, at the Consolidated Warehouse.

      • A rabies vaccination clinic will also be held in Harper on Saturday from 2-4 p.m. Hosted by the Harper Volunteer Fire Department at the fire station, the clinic will provide discounted rabies shots, along with other inoculations. Providing the shots there will be Dr. Curtis Eckhardt .

      • Hill Country Indian Artifact Show will display Indian artifacts, jewelry, pottery and related items on Saturday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Pioneer Pavilion, located inside Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park. Collectors will be bringing their displays of Native American artifacts from Texas and elsewhere in the United States to share with visitors in a show comprised of as many as 70 tables.

      • Hill Country Alumnae Chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta will hold its annual Founder’s Day luncheon and program on Saturday beginning at 11:30 a.m. Deanna Fischer and Barbara Heinen will co-host the event at Fischer’s home.

      • Fredericksburg Band Boosters will host their annual turkey dinner and band concert on Sunday at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds. The dinner and concert will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost is $9 per plate pre-sale, or $10 at the door. Customers can either dine in or order their meals to go. To get to the dinner, participants must go through the fair grounds main entrance only. Starting at 12:30 p.m., the Fredericksburg Middle School and Fredericksburg High School band concert will begin and provide music for the event. Prize tickets are $2 each or a book of six for $10, and prizes will be given away during the concert.

      • The Crabapple Community Club meeting originally scheduled for Sunday has been postponed until next Sunday, Feb. 8.

Sports

     • Fredericksburg High School girls' and boys' basketball teams will host Hondo tonight in the FHS Gyms. The JV boys and JV girls play at 5 p.m., the varsity girls and freshmen boys will play at 6:15 p.m. and the varsity boys and freshmen girls will play at 7:30 p.m.

      • The FHS girls' soccer teams will play Bandera tonight in the FHS Stadium. The JV plays at 5 p.m. followed by the varsity at 7 p.m.

      • FHS boys' soccer teams are traveling to Bandera tonight where the JV will play at 5 p.m. and the varsity at 7 p.m.

      • Harper High School boys' and girls' basketball teams will be hosting Mason tonight. The JV boys and JV girls play at 5 p.m., the varsity girls will play at 6:15 p.m. and the varsity boys play at 7:45 p.m.

      • Heritage School varsity boys' basketball team will host San Marcos Hill Country at 7:30 p.m. The JV will play Boerne Vanguard tonight at home at 6 p.m.

      • Heritage Logic boys' and girls' basketball teams will plan San Marcos Hill Country at home tonight starting at 5 p.m.
