Reuben David Byon
By Austin R. Eck
Reuben Byon, 17, of Fredericksburg, was indicted by the Rapides Parish grand jury on Sept. 25 on four counts of Communicating False Information of Planned Bombing on School Property.
On Sept. 9, schools in Alexandria, Louisiana and Pineville, Louisiana received bomb threats via telephone. On the same day, Fredericksburg High School received similar bomb threats.
Authorities in Fredericksburg arrested Byon on a warrant issued in Louisiana. After interviewing him, FPD later arrested Byon in connection with the FHS threats.
Currently, the Gillespie County Grand Jury has not reviewed Byon’s case.
According to the Louisiana law, a person convicted of Communicating False Information of Planned Bombing on School Property can serve no more than 20 years.
However, prosecutors in Louisiana intend on waiting for the Gillespie County Grand Jury to issue its decision on Byon’s case in Fredericksburg before proceeding, Brian Mosley, attorney for the Rapides Parish District Attorney, said.
Byon was arrested by FPD in the evening of Sept. 9 and has remained in Gillespie County custody since.
