Several City of Fredericksburg water and wastewater bond projects are nearing design completion and are expected to begin construction by early 2015.

Clinton Bailey, city director of public works and utilities, briefed the Fredericksburg City Council on the progress of 11 different projects during the council’s regular meeting Monday.

Funding comes from a $6.5 million utility bond approved by the council last summer.

Four water department projects are in varying stages of preparation for construction, Bailey said, with the rehabilitation of the 1,000,000-gallon Windcrest Tank already out for bid.

The Windcrest project, estimated to cost $809,000, is expected to begin in early December and take six months to complete. A temporary fiberglass tank will be installed to accommodate water flow in the area while the tank is under repair.

Construction of new 500,000-gallon water tanks at the South Heights and Goehmann Lane sites is expected to begin in March following the completion of design documents next month. The projects are estimated to come in at $923,570 and $1,047,940, respectively, and will take six months to complete.
