The region’s top high school marching bands will perform their 2014 contest shows here on Saturday in the annual Hill Country Marching Festival.

The public is invited to visit Fredericksburg High School (FHS) to watch show after “halftime” show as Class-2A to Class-6A bands march in the day-long event.

Judging this year’s contest-level performances, starting at 12:30 p.m. and continuing every 15 minutes, will be a panel of out-of-town musical experts, including:

•Bob Howard, retired director from Hondo High School;

•Stephen Krupicka, Director of Bands for Shiner Independent School District;

•Rey Meza, retired director from Marshall High School in San Antonio;

•Stephen Howard, Director of Bands at Ann Richards High school in Austin ISD, and,

•Manny Maldonado, Owner of MJM Works and Director of Percussion for Bradley Middle School in North East ISD.

Pride of the Hill Country

The FHS Marching Band — otherwise known as the “Pride of the Hill Country” — will not compete, but will still entertain crowds, marching its University Interscholastic League (UIL) contest show in exhibition to open the contest at 11:30 a.m.
