Sidewalk and trail connectivity throughout Fredericksburg will be discussed Monday during a special meeting of the Fredericksburg City Council, slated for 5:30 p.m. at the Gillespie County Law Enforcement Center.

The council will meet in joint session with the planning and zoning commission and the historic review board to examine proposed sites for future hiking and biking trails as well as plot out the city’s sidewalk plan.

Currently, the city allocates $100,000 annually toward sidewalk improvement projects.

Last year, the city decided to update design guidelines for new commercial buildings constructed along major corridors; create design options for major gateway improvements located at entryways into Fredericksburg; and develop a trails and sidewalk master plan.

Design guidelines and gateways were discussed as part of a special joint meeting on Sept. 8.

City Manager Kent Myers said the update should be completed by the end of this year.

The special meeting follows lengthy discussion of a proposal made by Austin-based consultant Design Workshop, which met resistance from residents, including Mayor Linda Langerhans, at a public meeting in July.

A copy of the consultant’s proposal is available online at www.fbgtx.org.

Budget amendments

During an abbreviated regular meeting Monday night, the council approved a series of minor amendments to its 2013-2014 budget.
