• Pilot Knob Extension Education Association Club is meeting this morning at the Gillespie County Extension Building. Shea Nebgen, Gillespie County Family and Consumer Sciences Extension Agent, will present the program.
• Author Dena Dyer will be signing copies of her book, "Wounded Women of the Bible - Finding Hope When Life Hurts,” today from 6-8 p.m. at the Greater Grace Coffee House.
• The 11th Annual Shopping for a Cause FUNdraiser to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Fredericksburg will take place today and Saturday. Preview parties are scheduled today at the participating stores. Shopping begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday and at 5 p.m., the group will meet at the Nimitz Ballroom to unwind after a long day of shopping and for prizes.
• TuTu Cute Dance and Cheer Studio will hold an open house and trial clinic from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday at the new studio and gym, located at 118 Boos Lane (next to Mr. Gattis).
• Two rural schools in Gillespie County — Luckenbach and Lower South Grape Creek — will host open houses from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
• The annual Grapetown family picnic will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Practice shooting will begin at 1 p.m., and the barbecue will be served at 6 p.m. Members are asked to bring their own side dishes.
• A patriotic program, “Lest We Forget: In God We Trust,” will be presented by the Canto Chamber Choir on Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Hill Country Evangelical Free Church. Tickets ($20 for adults and $5 for students) are available in advance at Grasshopper and Wild Honey and the church. Tickets will also be available at the door.
• Radio station KNAF 910 AM will host the New Horizons Benefit Radiothon Saturday from 4-10 p.m. Radio listeners will have an opportunity to hear music on KNAF 910 AM, while also phoning 997-8696 to pledge their monetary support to the center during its biggest fundraiser of the year. Music will also be broadcast live on 105.7 FM and on The Deuce, 103.1 FM.
• Cherry Spring Community Club will have its annual picnic and potluck supper on Saturday at the Cherry Spring School and Community Center. Activities begin at 4 p.m. and include fellowship, “42” dominoes and other games with the potluck meal at 6 p.m. Drinks, plates and utensils will be furnished.
• Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park will conclude its summer movie series on Saturday with the showing of the 1964 movie “A Hard Day’s Night,” starring the Beatles at the LBJ Ranch. Beginning at 6 p.m., The Eggmen, a Beatles tribute band, will play two 50-minute sets. The film starts at 8:30 p.m. and will be presented on a large outdoor screen.
• Dialogues and Dances will be held at Hill Country University Center at 7 p.m. on Saturday. Featured at this month’s concert is the music of Enrique Granados, Joseph Haydn and Edward McDowell.
• A night of professional bull riding returns to the Gillespie County Fair Grounds on Saturday night as part of the Fredericksburg PBR. The gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the bull riding starts at 7:30 p.m. Adult general admission is $20, admission for children six to 12 years is $10 and children five and under are free. Also, admission for active military, law enforcement, emergency medical services personnel and firefighters (ID required) is $10. Reserved seats are $25 and box seats are $40. Tickets are available for purchase online at www.gillespiefair.com. Tickets will also be available at the gate.
• Lower South Grape Creek School will host its annual barbecue fundraiser on Sunday. Meals of barbecued chicken with all the trimmings will be offered from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (or until sold out) at the school. A $9 donation is requested per plate. In addition, antique tractors will be on display.
• Zion Lutheran Church will host its annual benefit barbecue dinner on Sunday. The dinner will begin at 11 a.m. and continue until sold out. Tickets are $9 per plate. The meal will be to-go only.
• Pecan Creek Club/Community Center will meet at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. A short business meeting will be held and games of cards and dominoes will be played. Members are encouraged to bring sandwiches or desserts to share and drinks of their choice.
• Works by Beethoven, Schumann and Chopin will be performed Sunday by Van Cliburn finalist Tomoki Sakata during the first of eight 2014-2015 concert season performances hosted by the Fredericksburg Music Club. Set to begin at 3 p.m. in the sanctuary of Fredericksburg United Methodist Church, the concert is free although goodwill offerings are welcome.
• The Polkamatics will fill Marktplatz with their brand of polka music during the last concert of the “Concert in the Park” series on Sunday evening. The concert, which is sponsored by the Pedernales Creative Arts Alliance (PCAA), will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Adelsverein Halle

• Fredericksburg High School varsity football will be on the road tonight to play Burnet at 7:30 p.m.
• FHS JV and freshmen volleyball teams will continue play in tournaments in Wimberley on Saturday.
• FHS varsity tennis team will be playing in Fredericksburg on Saturday. They will host Schertz Steele at 9 a.m. and Schertz Clements at 1:30 p.m.
• Fredericksburg High School, Harper High School and Fredericksburg Middle School cross country teams will all be competing in the Jacob Krebs Cross Country Invitational in Harper on Saturday. The middle school girls run at 9 a.m., the middle school boys run at 9:30 a.m., the varsity boys run at 10 a.m. and the varsity girls at 10:30 a.m.
• In football action on Thursday night, the FHS Freshmen Red team won over Burnet, 23-20; the FHS Freshmen White team defeated Burnet, 8-6, and the FHS JV won its game, 12-8.
• Fredericksburg Middle School also played Burnet on Thursday night. The FMS 7th White team won, 16-14; the FMS 7th Red team won its game, 8-0; the FMS 8 White team downed Burnet, 28-20, and the FMS 8 Red team came up short to Burnet, 36-14.
• Harper High School varsity football will be in Ingram tonight for a 7:30 p.m. game.
• Harper volleyball teams will be traveling to Junction tonight where the freshmen and JV play at 4 p.m. and the varsity plays at 5 p.m.
• Heritage High School football will be playing Our Lady of the Hills in Kerrville tonight at 7:30 p.m.
• Heritage Logic volleyball will be playing in the Heritage Tournament on Saturday.
• St. Mary's football will be on the road to play St. Luke tonight at 7 p.m.
