• A piano concert featuring “German Folk Music” will be presented by Mark Hierholzer tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Hill Country Evangelical Free Church. Admission for this concert is $10 for adults and $5 for students.
• Vereins Quilt Guild members and guests will be treated to a program and trunk show by Debbie Maddy on the “No Diamonds/No Y Seams” technique Saturday. Doors to Zion Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall will open at 8:30 a.m. followed by a 9 a.m. business meeting, the members’ show and share session and Maddy's presentation. Maddy will also lead a workshop from 12:30-3:30 p.m. Saturday and from 1:30-4:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Gillespie County Agricultural Extension Building.
• Albert Community Club will hold a meeting and clean-up on Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Williams Creek School No. 7 in Albert. Clean-up day is in preparation for the annual barbecue. The club invites members to come, help clean, mow and trim weeds.
• Live pari-mutuel horse racing returns to the Gillespie County Fair Grounds on Saturday and Sunday. Gates open at 11 a.m. and post time is 1 p.m. both days. Advance tickets can be purchased online a www.gillespiefair.com.
• Night In Old Fredericksburg will be celebrated at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds on Saturday. Activities begin around 1 p.m. and include a washer pitching tournament, 42 tournament, beer key rolling, a stein holding contest, Bavarian beer maid races, yodeling, chicken dance contest and Schuhplattler (Bavarian shoe slapping), goat roping contest and chili and barbecue cook-offs. Music in the Exhibtiion Hall includes Off The Grid Band at 3 p.m. and the Seven Dutchmen at 7 p.m. Jake Hooker and the Outsiders will play on the outdoor pavilion from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Advance tickets can be purchased online at www.gillespiefair.com.
• Dr. R. Theodore Holland of Fredericksburg will be recognized for 60 years of distinguished service in the ordained ministry both of the United Church of Christ and the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). A special celebration will be held following the 11 a.m. service at Memorial Presbyterian Church Sunday.
