      • Animals are starting to arrive at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds today in preparation for the 2016 Gillespie County 4-H and FFA Livestock Show and Auction. Animals will be weighed and classified later today and the breeding sheep and Angora goats will be judged this evening. Judging continues throughout the day on Friday and the auction will be held on Saturday.

      • Today is the deadline to register for the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Gillespie County, Professional Food Manager Certification Training Course. The course titled, “Food Safety: It’s Our Business,” will be held at the Gillespie County Extension Office on Jan. 25-26. Cost of the course is $125, which includes the training, materials and a national food manager certification exam. The food manager’s certification will be valid for five years.

      • South Texas Blood and Tissue Center will be conducting a blood drive from 1-7 p.m. today in the parking lot at Walmart.

      • Fredericksburg chapter of the University of Texas Exes will gather for "Thirsty Thursday" at 5:30 p.m. today at the Pedernales Brewery on U.S. 87 South. There will be beer for sale but attendees can bring their own wine. Snacks will be provided, and plans for the coming year will be discussed during the meeting.

      • Die Künstler von Fredericksburg (The Artists of Fredericksburg) will meet at 6:30 p.m. this evening in the fellowship hall of Memorial Presbyterian Church. Everyone is encouraged to arrive at 6 p.m. This month’s guest artist will be Kim Timmons, who is a ‘plein air’ painter as well as art teacher at Burnet High School. She will be demonstrating soft pastels.

 

    Sports

          • Fredericksburg High School varsity girls' soccer team is playing in the Fredericksburg Tournament today through Saturday. The Billies will play Burnet this morning at 9 a.m. and St. Anthony this evening at 6:15 p.m.

          • Fredericksburg Middle School seventh and eighth grade girls' and boys' basketball teams will play Bandera tonight. The girls will be at home and the boys will be on the road. The B games are at 5 p.m. and the A games at 6 p.m.

          • Harper High School girls' basketball teams are traveling to Junction tonight where the JV will play at 5 p.m. and the varsity at 6:15 p.m.

          • Heritage Logic boys' and girls' basketball teams are playing tonight. The boys will host Towneast beginning at 6 p.m. and the girls will travel to play Convenant starting at 5 p.m.
