| News • Judging began at 9 a.m. this morning at the 2016 Gillespie County Youth Livestock Show being held at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds. The grand champion drive takes place at 6 p.m. tonight. On Saturday, the pre-sale lunch for buyers is at 11 a.m. and the auction gets underway at noon. • Cherry Spring Community Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. tonight at the Cherry Spring School/Community Center. There will be fellowship and games like dominoes and “42” after a potluck meal of sandwiches, chips and more. Drinks, plates and utensils will be provided. • Willow City Community Club will meet tonight at the Willow City School/Community Center. Attendees are asked to bring finger foods and snacks for the light meal to be served at 6:45 p.m. A short business meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. followed by games of "42", board games and fellowship. • A reception celebrating the 20th anniversary of pulpit minister Tommy LeFan’s service to the Fredericksburg Church of Christ will be held after the 10:30 a.m. service on Sunday in the church's fellowship hall. • Pecan Creek Community Club will meet at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the school. A short business meeting will be held, and then there will be games like “42” or “Hi 5.” Attendees are asked to bring snacks or desserts to be shared and drinks for themselves. • Fritztown Cinema and the Hill Country Film Society will host a free Indie Film Series at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the local theater. The first screening of the new year will be the Texas Filmmaker’s Showcase, a collection of Texas-made short films curated by the Houston Film Commission. Admission is free but donations benefiting the Hill Country Film Society will be accepted. Seating will be first come, first serve starting at 6:15 p.m.
Sports • Fredericksburg High School varsity girls' soccer team is continuing play in the Fredericksburg Tournament today and Saturday in the FHS Stadium. The Billies will play at 12:40 p.m. today against Taylor. On Thursday, the girls lost to Burnet, 5-2, and defeated St. Anthony, 7-0. • The FHS varsity boys' soccer team is playing in the San Antonio ISD Tournament today and Saturday. • FHS boys' basketball teams will be hosting Antonian tonight in the FHS Gyms. The freshmen and JV play at 5:30 p.m. followed by the varsity at 7 p.m. • The FHS girls' basketball teams will be traveling to Bandera tonight to open District 29-4A play. The freshmen play at 5 p.m., the JV at 6:15 p.m. and the varsity at 7:30 p.m. • FHS boys' and girls' swimming team members are competing in the Tex Robertson Invitational today. • Fredericksburg Middle School seventh and eighth grade girls' basketball teams will be playing in the Fredericksburg Tournament on Saturday in the FMS Gyms. The FMS 8A team will play Comfort at 9 a.m., Marble Falls at 11 a.m. and Poteet at 2 p.m. The FMS 7A team will play at 10 a.m. against Comfort, at 1 p.m. against Marble Falls and at 3 p.m. against Poteet. Both FMS 7B and 8B teams are scheduled to play Marble Falls — at 8 a.m. and again at noon. • Harper High School boys' basketball teams will host La Pryor tonight in the Harper Gyms. The JV plays at 5 p.m. and the varsity at 6:15 p.m. • Heritage varsity boys' and girls' basketball teams will be on the road to play Legacy tonight. The JV boys play at 5 p.m., the varsity girls at 6 p.m. and the varsity boys at 7:30 p.m.
