Concerns over the city’s self-funded insurance plan have forced the Fredericksburg City Council to hold a special meeting this morning to discuss the issue.
Paul Rutledge of the Texas Municipal League, which administers the city’s insurance plan, presented an update on the status of the health insurance fund.
“Recently, costs have been increasing and the special council meeting will address how to handle these increased costs,” City Manager Kent Myers said. “Last year when we put together the budget, we told the council that we continue to have some financial challenges with our health insurance and we wanted to get back with the council after the first of the year to update and determine a course of action.”
Monday meeting
The council approved the city’s 2015 holiday schedule and the appointment of Julie Kuhlken and David Plesko to two-year terms on the Gillespie County Economic Development Commission board of directors in a light regular meeting Monday.
Kuhlken, of Pedernales Cellars, will replace Brian Heath, of Grape Creek Vineyards, representing the wine industry on the board, while Plesko, of InSight Gallery, will replace Donna Strickland, of Fredericksburg Art Gallery, as an art community representative.
Mayor Linda Langerhans issued a proclamation declaring January National Blood Donor Month during the meeting.
