Extra patrols lead to five DWI arrests

Fredericksburg Police Department had extra patrol officers on the street during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.

Officers were assigned specifically to target impaired drivers and other unsafe driving behaviors. Those efforts resulted in six arrests, five of which were for Driving While Intoxicated.

Police officers assigned to the extra patrol shift also made 69 traffic stops that resulted in 21 citations and 73 warnings.

According to FPD, the department will continue to increase patrol throughout future holidays this year to keep roadways as safe as possible for those who travel.

Theft

During the Christmas holidays, the city often sees in an increase in theft. FPD increased the number of officers to combat theft by patrolling parking lots of the businesses throughout Fredericksburg. This practice began Thanksgiving weekend and was ongoing through Christmas.
