Residents of Gillespie County will have a chance to show their solidarity against crime on Tuesday, Oct. 7, during National Night Out.
National Night Out is a program designed to heighten crime prevention awareness, generate support for local anticrime programs, strengthen the relationship between police and the community and show criminals neighborhoods are organized against crime.
On Tuesday evening, several communities around Gillespie County will be getting together to meet their neighbors and learn about safety.
In addition to fire departments hosting open houses, apartment complexes will partake in the event.
National Night Out is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch. Last year over 37.8 million people in 16,462 communities across all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide took part in the event.
People are also urged to leave their porch lights on, throw block parties and get to know their neighbors all to help promote crime awareness.
Fredericksburg
The Fredericksburg Volunteer Fire Department is partnering with the Friendship Place apartments from 6-8 p.m. at the apartments, 709 S. Creek St.
Volunteer firefighters and Fredericksburg Police Department officers will be on hand to talk to attendees.
