      • Fredericksburg High School has been celebrating Homecoming 2014 this week and tonight the Battlin' Billies take on Llano in the FHS Stadium at 7:30 p.m. A Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned during halftime and a dance will follow the game. Homecoming Queen nominees include Ariana Chavez, Paxten Keyser, Brooke Rogan, Kendyl Stevens and Delta Wise. Homecoming King nominees are Braden Bowers, Mason Clark, Ty Franklin, Kyle Grona and Mark Rodriguez.

      • Texas Tech Law School is hosting a “From Water to Wine” law course for licensed attorneys today at the Hill Country University Center. The event will focus on water law and its impact on the wine and grape industry, labeling practices and other wine-related topics.

      • Northwest San Antonio’s Mobile Vet Center will be in Fredericksburg today from noon-4 p.m. at the VFW Post 7105 to provide information to veterans, their families and the general public about vet center benefits for combat veterans and their families. 

      • The Fredericksburg VFW Post 7105 will hold a POW/MIA remembrance ceremony at 3 p.m. today at the post hall. The public is invited to participate in the ceremony.

     •The Annual Fredericksburg Rotary Club Homecoming Spaghetti Dinner will be served from 5-8 p.m. this evening in the Fredericksburg High School cafeteria. The menu includes spaghetti and meatballs, salad, garlic bread and a choice of beverages. Patrons may choose to dine in the cafeteria, use the walk-up take away window or drive thru to pick up the dinners. Tickets are available from any Rotary member and will also be available at the door for a suggested donation of $6 each.

      • Wrede Community Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. tonight at the Wrede School. Sylvia Lochte and Bob and Jeanette Conn will host the social and games night, and they will furnish sandwiches, iced tea and coffee. Others attending can bring a salad, dessert or chips and dip.

     • Harper Wildlife Management Area members will conduct their third and final spotlight deer census survey on several public roads in western Gillespie County and eastern Kimble County tonight through Sunday.

      • "In Stealth We Trust: Special Forces and Their Origins in WWII” is the theme for the annual symposium on Saturday hosted by the Admiral Nimitz Foundation. The symposium will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Fredericksburg Theater Company. 

      • The 27th annual Lutheran Fall Festival will be held Saturday at Marktplatz. The festival begins with the third annual "hit the Trails Running 5K" at 9 a.m. at Marktplatz. Check in for the run begins at 7:30 a.m. Other activities include a chili cook-off, crafts fair, games for children, live music and a silent auction. All proceeds benefit Cross Trails Ministry and its work with Lutheran Camp Chrysalis, Ebert Ranch Camp and other similar endeavors. The craft vendors open at 9 a.m. and judging for the chili competition begins at 11 a.m.

     • Fredericksburg Shines, a local sustainable living organization, will host its second annual Fredericksburg fall tour of homes on Saturday to spotlight local examples of sustainable, green-living practices. Nine homes on the tour (with 10 locations) will be featured as part of the tour from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets for the event are $25 and include a map and description of each home’s features. Tickets are available now at www.fbgshines.org/sustainability-home-tour.

     • A special “Stonewall Seed Stomp Skedaddle” 5K fun run/walk and 10K run will be held on Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. at the Lyndon B. Johnson State Park and Historic Site at Stonewall. The course begins at the park visitor’s center, winds through portions of the park’s nature trail and includes a stretch of Ranch Road 1 along the Pedernales River. Registration is set at $20 for both runs and $15 for the walk per person. Children 10 and under may participate for $5. Race day registration begins at 6:30 a.m. for a $25 fee. Participants are asked to pick up their race packets by 7:30 a.m. the day of the race.

     • A chance to help scatter wildflower seeds in a designated field will be offered from 1:30-3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at the Annual Seed Stomp at the Lyndon B. Johnson State Park and Historic Site at Stonewall. There is no charge to help scatter the wildflower seeds provided by the state park. The park will also be introducing the new Texas State Parks Junior Ranger Program to children during this event.  Children ages 7-12 can learn about the natural world around them while exploring Texas state parks.

      • Faith Baptist Church of Fredericksburg will present a free public showing of the family movie, “Touched By Grace,” at 6 p.m. on Sunday. The film addresses the themes of bullying, true friendship and faith. Following the presentation will be a time for discussion, fellowship and light refreshments.

Sports

     • Fredericksburg High School varsity football will host Llano at 7:30 p.m. tonight in the FHS Stadium. The Billies are celebrating Homecoming 2014 tonight.

      • FHS varsity volleyball will play San Angelo Central in the FHS Gym tonight. The varsity plays at 5 p.m. and the freshmen and JV will play at 6:15 p.m. The freshmen and JV will play in the Hays JV and 9 Rebel Bash Tournament on Saturday.

      • FHS and Harper High School cross country teams will run in the Six Flags/Fiesta Texas Ricardo Romo Cross Country Classic at the National Shooting Complex in San Antonio beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday.

      • The FHS varsity tennis team will play Brownwood on Saturday at Mason starting at 9 a.m.

     • In football action on Thursday night, the FHS freshmen defeated Llano, 35-6, in the FHS Stadium. The FHS JV game was cancelled due to the weather in Llano.
 
      • Harper High School varsity football will host Sonora at 7:30 p.m. tonight in the Harper Stadium.

      •Harper volleyball will be playing Leakey tonight in Harper. The freshmen and JV will play at 4 p.m. and the varsity at 5 p.m.

     • Heritage School varsity football is also playing at home tonight and will be taking on San Antonio Feast at 7:30 p.m.
