     • Frustrated residents living in a 145-acre area southeast of Fredericksburg along U.S 290 East voiced their opposition to being annexed by the City of Fredericksburg during a public hearing held Monday evening. No decision was made by the council, though they are expected to begin the institution of annexation proceedings during a special meeting on Sept. 3. Residents in the area with an agriculture-exemption on their property taxes have until 5:30 p.m. Wednesday to opt out of annexation for a 15-year period.

The city council also voted to adopt the effective tax rate of $0.2482 per $100 valuation for 2014-2015, which is 1.18 cents lower than the current rate of $0.2600. The city’s proposed budget for 2014-2015, which increases spending by nearly $12 million, was also presented despite no comment from residents during a public hearing. The budget is available online at www.fbgtx.org.

The council also approved a lighting standards ordinance that would primarily affect new residential and commercial development and discussed, but took no action on, an affordable housing agreement with the Texas Housing Foundation based out of Marble Falls.
