A week after the Fredericksburg Independent School District voted to leave the Gillespie County Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office as its property tax collector, the Fredericksburg City Council voted 4-0 to make the same move, opting for the Gillespie Central Appraisal District during their regular meeting Monday.
Though the council approved the move, the change will not happen before July 1, 2015, as the appraisal district needs time to prepare for the additional workload and potentially construct new office space.
“If you set aside the new building discussion, with the school district making the decision they’ve made, I think the numbers will lead us to follow the school district,” Councilman Gary Neffendorf said.
Harper ISD was also slated to consider a move to the appraisal district at their board meeting last night. A decision was not available as of press time.

While city officials have joined the FISD in expressing their concerns about the county tax office, led by Tax Assessor-Collector Marissa Weinheimer, the impact on the city has been less than on the FISD.
