A mother and daughter who were living a “stone’s throw” from a daycare center in Fredericksburg were arrested on felony drug charges, according to the Fredericksburg Police Department (FPD).

Taken into custody after a narcotics search warrant was executed on Wednesday morning, Feb. 12, at their residence at 907 Apple Street (less than a half a block away from a childcare facility) were Karen Mills, 57, and her daughter, Sara Dvorak, 34.

Mills remains in custody, with bond set at $106,500, while Dvorak has since posted bail of $25,000 to gain release, confirmed Gillespie County Jail Sergeant John Robinson.

The drug bust was the result of a month-long investigation with cooperation between the city police force and the Gillespie County Sheriff’s Office, according to FPD Detective Terry Weed.

Mills was charged with “Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance in a Drug-Free Zone” — a first-degree felony — after officers discovered 12 grams of methamphetamine (“meth”) in her bedroom, Weed said.
