FTC’s ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ to open on FTC stage Friday

CELEBRATING their new union, Mr. Mushnik (James Lacy, left) and his newly-adopted son, Seymour Krelborn (Will Vaughan), dance in front of their flower shop in the Fredericksburg Theater Company’s comedy rock-musical, “Little Shop of Horrors.” The production showcases a bizarre plant that Seymour names “Audrey II,” after the love of his life. As he cares for it, Seymour soon discovers that the plant can thrive... but only on human blood — posing a predicament as the up-and-coming florist struggles to balance his newfound successes with the guilt from what it takes to keep his ticket to fame alive. The Fredericksburg Theater Company production of the 1960s comedy-horror-rock musical “Little Shop of Horrors” opens Friday, Feb. 21.

The musical, directed by FTC artistic/technical director Kerry Goff, will be performed Feb. 21 through March 9 at the Steve W. Shepherd Theater located at 1668 U.S. Highway 87 South, with 7:30 p.m. showings on Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. matinee showings on Sundays.

Tickets are now on sale, and they are $20 for adults ($25 at the door) and $5.50 for youth 18 years and younger ($7.50 at the door).

Little Shop of Horrors revolves around a hapless florist who is propelled to stardom by a blood-thirsty plant. The plant constantly requires sustenance. Seymour the florist aspires to win the heart of his co-worker, Audrey.

Also in the play are a Greek chorus of Doo-Wop singers, and a sadistic dentist who entered the profession because his mother observed that he “had a talent for causing things pain.”

As the musical progresses, so does the size of the plant, Audrey II.
