Daily Update for Jan. 22 and the Weekend

      • Bill Lindemann will speak at the Doss Community Improvement Club meeting tonight. A potluck dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. with his program following. There will also be a business meeting. Membership dues are $10 per person and may be paid at the meeting. 

      • The Amputee Support Group will meet 10 a.m. on Saturday in the Fellowship Hall of Memorial Presbyterian Church. 

      • An open house at the one-room Nebgen School will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the school, located at 1718 North Grape Creek Road in eastern Gillespie County. Club members will be on hand to share school history. Memorabilia, school records and pictures will be on display, and games, including "42," will be played during the afternoon. Refreshments will be served..

      • Fredericksburg Tea Party will host a candidate forum at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Hermann Sons Lodge. Candidates campaigning on the Republican ticket for Texas House and Senate seats (HD73 and SD24), Railroad Commission and Congressional District 21 will answer questions concerning the office they seek and express their views on other issues.

      • Fredericksburg Volunteer Fire Department will host a Fireman’s Dance on Saturday at the Turner Hall. The dance will feature the music of the Wagon Aces from 8 p.m. to midnight. Admission is by donation, and the public is invited. Proceeds will benefit the Fredericksburg Volunteer Fire Department. Beer and soda will be available for purchase.

      • VaNeda Perkins, daughter of the Rev. Wille Perkins, Assembly of God minister in Kerrville, will be speaking at Lighthouse Fellowship Chapel in Harper at 10 a.m. Sunday. Perkins has been a teacher in China for 18 years. She has lived in six different cities in China and is currently teaching at Inner Mongolia Normal University, where she has been for the last 10 years.

      • Harper Community Park Association will hold its 2016 annual general meeting at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Community Hall. The agenda for the meeting will include electing directors to fill the three open positions on the board. Other items on the agenda include updates on current park events, on activities and ongoing projects such as the Hall Capital Campaign and on member benefits for 2016.

Sports  

      • Fredericksburg High School girls' and boys' basketball teams are hosting Devine tonight in the FHS Gyms. The JV boys and JV girls play at 5 p.m., the varsity girls and freshman boys play at 6:15 p.m. and the varsity boys and freshman girls play at 7:30 p.m.

      • The FHS boys' soccer teams are traveling to Uvalde tonight where the JV will play at 5 p.m. and the varsity at 7 p.m.

      • FHS varsity girls' soccer team is playing in the Kerrville Varsity Tournament today and Saturday while the JV team will continue play in the Smithson Valley JV tournament today.

      • Fredericksburg Middle School 7B and 8B teams are competing in the Wimberley B Tournament on Saturday.

      • Harper High School boys' and girls' basketball teams are hosting San Saba tonight. The JV boys and JV girls play at 5 p.m. followed by the varsity girls at 6:15 p.m. and the varsity boys at 7:45 p.m.

      • Heritage varsity boys' basketball team is hosting FEAST tonight at 7:30 p.m.

      • The Heritage Logic boys' and girls' basketball teams will be on the road to play Legacy this afternoon beginning at 4:30 p.m.
