
News • Pilot Knob Extension Education Club will hold its annual recognition luncheon at 11 a.m. today at the Gillespie County Extension Building. New 2016 Gillespie Extension Education Association/Pilot Knob Extension Education Club officers will be installed during the meeting. • The Golden Hub will be hosting a holiday open house from 5-7 p.m. tonight. Entertainment will be provided by Classic Country. Prize drawing tickets will be available for purchase to win a fully decorated Christmas tree. Appetizers, wine and punch will be served. • A Christmas party is planned for tonight by the Cherry Spring Community Club at the Cherry Spring Schoolhouse/Community Center. Activities begin with a potluck meal at 6:30 p.m. followed by fellowship, “42” dominoes and other games. Drinks, plates and tableware will be furnished. Instead of a gift exchange, members are asked to bring non-perishable food items or a cash donation for the Fredericksburg Food Pantry. • Bethany Lutheran Church will host its annual presentation of “A Christmas Journey,” tonight and again on Saturday from 6-8:30 p.m. The journey will feature nine scenes complete with live actors and animals that tell the story of the birth of Jesus Christ. Attendees can drive their own vehicles along the lighted path or ride on the Bethany bus or wagons provided by the church. • Fredericksburg Theater Company will open its two-week run of “A Tuna Christmas,” a sequel to “Greater Tuna,” this weekend at the Steve W. Shepherd Theater. The comedy will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, Dec. 11-12 and Dec. 18-19, and then 2 p.m. Sundays, Dec. 13 and 20. Tickets for “A Tuna Christmas” are $29 for adults and $12 for children 17 and under. Tickets are available at the FTC box office. Box office hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tickets can also be purchased by calling 830-997-3588 or online at www.fredericksburgtheater.org. • The Harper Community Stock Show will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday with the judging of the Angora goats. Judging in the other divisions begins at 9 a.m. at the Harper Show Barn. Check in is from 4-7 p.m. today except for cattle, for which check in is at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. • The 30th annual St. Joseph’s Halle Craft Show will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday at St. Joseph's Halle. Admission is free. Artists and craftsmen from Fredericksburg and the surrounding Hill Country will be at the show with their handmade items. • The National Museum of the Pacific War will host the Nimitz Junior Corps at 11 a.m. Saturday. The museum staff will show the kids how to make traditional World War II Christmas decorations and teach how Christmas was celebrated with wartime rationing in effect. Space is limited, and reservations are encouraged. Cost is $5 per student per program. • Ambleside School will host a Children’s Decorating Party from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Children will gather on the patio at Kelani Yogurt and pick choices of toppings to use as décor for the gingerbread houses. Gingerbread house kits may be purchased onsite, and reservations are suggested to ensure the availability of a kit by emailing amblesidegingerbread@gmail.com. • American Legion Post 244 will meet at Catfish Haven at 11:30 a.m. Saturday for their Christmas luncheon. All members’ spouses and auxiliary members are encouraged to attend. It will be a “buy-your-own” meal with the post paying the tip. • Grapetown Community Club will hold a Christmas party from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday at the Grapetown School. All former students, families of students and Grapetown residents are invited to meet with old and new friends, share memories and enjoy light refreshments. • Doss Community Improvement Club will host its annual Christmas party on Saturday at the Doss Community Center. Happy hour will begin at 6 p.m. followed by the meal at 6:30 p.m. The club will provide ham, bread, tea and coffee and everyone is asked to bring a side dish or dessert. There will also be a Chinese gift exchange and Santa Claus will be stopping by. • Willow City Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department will hold its annual Christmas party starting at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the fire station. All are invited to attend. A roast beef dinner will be provided by Rabke’s Table Ready Meats and Catering, and guests are asked to bring a side dish, salad and/or dessert. The department is also accepting donations for the Hill Country Community Needs Council and the Fredericksburg Food Pantry. • Fredericksburg Chorale’s monthly Dialogues and Dances concert will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Hill Country University Center. Dialogues and Dances is an informal concert of newly created music as well as the music of past masters, held every second Saturday of the month. Admission to Dialogues and Dances is by donation. • The Eighth Annual Tannenbaum Ball hosted by the Gillespie County Historical Society/Pioneer Museum will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday in the St. Mary’s Holy Family Center. Individual tickets are $175. The gala includes a catered three-course dinner by August E’s, an open bar, entertainment by the Flying GT’s and live and silent auctions. The gala is part of the Pioneer Museum’s “Holiday Happenings” events, which also included the Holiday Home Tour last Saturday. • Pecan Creek Community Club will meet at 2:30 p.m. Sunday for their Christmas dinner. They will have a short business meeting and then will play games of “42” and card games. Members are invited to bring side dishes or desserts to share with the baked chicken and dressing, and to bring their choice of drinks. • Resurrection Lutheran Church will install new pastor, Rev. John A. Laux, in a special service at 4 p.m. Sunday. Following the service will be a church picnic to welcome the pastor and his family. • Fredericksburg High School’s Theater 1 class will perform a comedy about an odd New York City family on Sunday in the FHS Auditorium. “You Can’t Take It With You” will be performed twice with showings at 5 p.m. (doors open at 4:30 p.m.) and the second, at 7 p.m. The sixth period class will perform first, and then the fifth period class will perform next. Tickets are $4 for adults and $2 for students. Faculty, staff and children 10 and under are free.
Sports • Fredericksburg High School varsity boys' basketball team is continuing play in the Canyon Lake Tournament through Saturday. The JV and freshmen teams are playing in the Wimberley Tournament. • FHS varsity girls' basketball team are competing in the Fredericksburg Tournament through Saturday. The girls will play at 10:15 a.m. today against Savio and at 5:45 p.m. against Mason. • The FHS freshman girls' basketball team will play in the Mason Tournament on Saturday. The Harper JV girls are also playing in the Mason Tournament. • Harper High School boys' varsity and junior varsity basketball teams are competing in the Sonora Tournament through Saturday. • The Harper varsity girls are playing in the Medina Tournament through Saturday.
