While Oktoberfest was underway at Marktplatz last weekend, many runners and walkers arose early for a race that started and ended at Fredericksburg Middle School Saturday morning.
Scores of men and women from various age groups ran in the Fredericksburg Morning Rotary Club Sixth Annual Kraut Run/Walk 8K to raise funds for area educational projects.
Julian Romero, at 29:09, was the first overall winner among the men and finished first among all runners. He ran the race barefoot.
“Shoes slow me down,” said the Tucson, Arizona resident.
Among the ladies, Shannon Hanna finished first overall at 36:16.
While they didn’t have official recorded times, members of the Fredericksburg High School Cross Country team, which had a bye week, also ran.
