      • Gillespie County Commissioners on Monday approved the 2015-2016 tax rate at 41.47 cents per $100 valuation for its $28.3-million budget. The tax rate marks an increase of 10.4 percent with an roughly $2.2 million in tax revenue going to pay for jail operating costs and debt on the new 96-bed facility.

       • Fredericksburg Independent School District Board of Trustees on Monday night learned both the district and all campuses “Met the State Standard” in accountability ratings for the State of Texas. The trustees voted 5-0 to approve the 2016 Gillespie County Appraisal District Budget, which includes a proposed 20 percent increase to compensate for several years of being “shorthanded.” A new, state-of-the-art scoreboard could be in the Battlin’ Billies’ future as South Dakota-based Daktronics presented plans and suggestions for financing.

      • Hill Country CattleWomen will begin their new year with a meeting this morning at the Hangar Hotel/Convention Center at the Gillespie County Airport. The meeting is hosted by the administrative committee. Officers will be installed and plans for the coming year will be discussed. Also at the meeting, the Cattle Woman of the Year and Behind the Scene Cattle Woman of the Year will be announced.

      • Local organizations in need of funding are reminded that the deadline to apply for grant money from the  Bethany Lutheran Foundation of Fredericksburg is today. Applications must be postmarked today to be considered for the grant. Applications can be picked up at the Bethany Lutheran Church office. Grant selections will be made in November and a total of $15,105 will be awarded in January 2016.

      • There is still time to vote for Fredericksburg in the Best Oktoberfest poll http://www.10best.com/awards/travel/best-oktoberfest/oktoberfest-fredericksburg-fredericksburg-texas/ Oktoberfest Fredericksburg is currently ranked #8 out of 20.

Sports

      • Fredericksburg High School volleyball teams will be on the road tonight to play Burnet. The JV and freshmen teams play at 5:30 p.m. followed by the varsity at 6:30 p.m.

      • Harper High School volleyball will travel to Medina tonight where the freshmen play at 4 p.m., the JV at 5 p.m. and the varsity at 6 p.m.

      • Hertiage School volleyball will play Our Lady of the Hills in Kerrville tonight starting at 5:30 p.m.

      • Heritage Junior High volleyball will travel to play Austin School for the Deaf starting at 5:30 p.m. today.

      • St. Mary's volleyball will host Holy Cross today starting at 5 p.m.

      • The Super Senior Men's Golf Association will gather today at Lady Bird Johnson Golf Course.
