
News • Individuals interested in being a Fredericksburg Academic Boosters mentor are invited to a general meeting at 11 a.m. today at the Hill Country University Center. Orientation for new mentors will follow at 11:45 a.m. At the lunch, Fredericksburg Academic Booster Board member and mentor liaison, Afton Hominick will provide a brief overview of the boosters’ mentoring program as well as other programs supported by the organization. • Providence Hall will host a supply drop-off and meet-the-teacher event at 1 p.m. today at the school's new location at 406 Post Oak Road. • Area author Delia Hunt will celebrate her new book, “Juicy Fruits,” at a book signing from 1-4 p.m. today at 408 W. Travis St. • Low Vision Resource Information Group will meet from 2-3:30 p.m. today at Heritage Place. This informal group delivers programs and discussions about visual loss and introduces tools and techniques for making adaptations in order to be as independent as possible. • Central Texas Private Property Rights Coalition will have its annual meeting tonight in the biergarten at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds. U.S. Rep. Lamar Smith will speak to the group about property rights issues. This will include what some consider the Environmental Protection Agency’s “overreach” with the Waters of the United States Effort. • Rural issues will be the focus of a forum beginning at 5 p.m. tonight at the Gillespie County Farm Bureau Event Center. Sports • Fredericksburg High School volleyball teams are playing in tournaments starting today and continuing on Saturday. The varsity is playing in the Hays Rebel Bash Tournament while the JV and freshmen are playing in the Dripping Springs Tournament. • The FHS tennis teams will host Marble Falls today. The varsity will play at the courts on the FHS campus starting at 4 p.m. and the JV will play at Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park at 4:15 p.m. • Fredericksburg High School junior varsity and freshman football teams will play tonight against Austin Travis. The JV will be at home in the FHS Stadium for a 6 p.m. game while the freshmen will play at Austin Travis at 5:30 p.m. • Fredericksburg Middle School volleyball teams will open their season tonight with games at Bandera. The 7B and 8B play at 5 p.m. and the 7A and 8A will play at 6 p.m. • Harper JV football will host San Saba tonight at 6 p.m. • Heritage School volleyball is playing in the Sonora Varsity Tournament today and Saturday. • Heritage Junior High football will play New Braunfels Christian Academy at the CFPO field in San Marcos at 5:30 p.m. • Heritage Junior High volleyball is playing Austin School of the Deaf at First Baptist Church in Fredericksburg today. The sixth/seventh play at 5:30 p.m. and the eighth grade plays at 6:30 p.m. • St. Mary's volleyball will host Atonement Academy today starting at 4:30 p.m.
