A queen has been crowned, trophies awarded, the animals have returned home and the last live horse race of the season has been run to bring to a close the 127th Gillespie County Fair.
Held at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds, the four-day celebration Thursday through Sunday included a queen’s contest, music, parade, live pari-mutuel horse racing, carnival and midway, agricultural and home products displays, domino tournament, livestock judging and more.
“It was a great fair,” said Robert (Henry) Sagebiel, president of the sponsoring Gillespie County Fair and Festivals Association. “We received great support from the community.”
He also recognized all of those who brought entries for the fair. “A lot of people really enjoy looking at all of the vegetables, canned goods, sewing, baked goods, arts and crafts and more that are in the Exhibition Hall.”
And on behalf of the fair association board, Sagebiel said, “I would like to thank all of the volunteers, committee chairmen and committee members for showing up to help us get it all done.”
A special thanks, he said goes to all of the sponsors of the belt buckles, plaques, ribbons and more as well as to the City of Fredericksburg for their continued support and for helping with the parade down Main Street.
He said that all of the work that goes into putting on the fair and all of the other summer events at the fair grounds wouldn’t be possible without the help of the directors and their families.
One of the highlights of the 127th Gillespie County Fair came on Friday night when Julie Krebs, daughter of William and Mary Krebs was crowned the 2016 Gillespie County Fair Queen.
Chosen to reign with Krebs in 2016 were First Duchess Rachel Rothermel, daughter of Kathy Rothermel and Jeff Briggs; Second Duchess Jaleigh Brown, daughter of Jason Brown and Jennifer McAfee Brown, and Third Duchess Marah Graef, daughter of Carissa Staats and Nathan Graef.
