Live pari-mutuel horse racing for the 2015 season came to an end over the weekend with two days of action held as part of the 127th Gillespie County Fair.

In addition to Saturday and Sunday’s program, the eightday summer season at the Class III track at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds also included live racing on July 4-5, July 18-19 and Aug. 8-9.

The Gillespie County Fair and Festivals Association sponsors the live pari-mutuel horse racing as well as the 127th Gillespie County Fair. (More information on the fair can be found in a separate article.)

“It was another great horse race meet,” said Lee DeLong, a director with the fair association and mutuels manager.

He said that the “races went well” and that there were full gates both days. “We attribute that to the trainers and owners
who enjoy coming to the fair and supporting us.”

Robert (Henry) Sagebiel agreed, saying that the racing season overall was a success.

“We had good handles, good wagers, good horses and good support,” Sagebiel said.

Twenty-two races were run on Saturday and Sunday.
