Daily Update for July 10 and the Weekend

      • Pilot Knob Extension Education Club will meet at 9:30 a.m. this morning at the Gillespie County Agricultural Extension Building. Audrey Mayer, a health and safety instructor for the American Red Cross, will present a program on first aid and cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR). One of the club members will also talk about medication disposal. Members are reminded to bring recipes to the meeting.

      • Cherry Spring Community Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. tonight at the Cherry Spring Schoolhouse/Community Center. Fellowship, “42” dominoes and other games will follow a potluck meal. Drinks, plates and eating utensils will be furnished.

      • The Golden Hub will host a country western dance tonight at the center. A hot meal will be served from 6-7 p.m. by donation followed by the music from 7-9:30 p.m. The cover charge is $5 per person and reservations are not necessary. Attendees can bring their own drinks. Ice will be provided. This month’s meal will be chicken pasta primavera, garden salad, garlic bread, cookie and tea.

      • The City of Fredericksburg will host a throwback “Kick and Swim Party” on Saturday at the newly renamed Coach Tony Knopp Town Pool. Pool admission from 1:30-4:30 p.m. Saturday will be 25 cents, the price of admission when the facility first opened in the 1950s. Knopp’s family will on hand to meet and greet former lifeguards and students.

      • The annual sign-up meeting for the Harper Wildlife Management Association will be held Saturday in the pavilion and picnic area in the Harper Community Park. The meeting will start with a social hour and sign-up at 5:30 p.m. A short business meeting will include the election of a president, vice president, director for area 1 and director for area 3.

      • Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park will continue its outdoor summer movie series on Saturday with “The Sons of Katie Elder,” starring John Wayne and Dean Martin, at the LBJ Ranch near Stonewall. The screening starts at dusk and will be presented on a large outdoor screen. Access to the ranch begins at 7 p.m. A movie trivia contest will precede the film and prizes will be given out to contest winners. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and refreshments. The program is free of charge. 

      • Dialogues and Dances will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday at the Hill Country University Center. It will feature improvisations on piano and accordion by Mark Hierholzer as well as improvisations by Madeline Jumes and new work by James Kraus. John Sharpe will perform works by Brahms and Haydn, and Emma Sharpe will perform Mozart as well as sing a set of songs from scripture set to music by Hierholzer. Donations are accepted but not required.

      • Pecan Creek Community Club will meet at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday at 3410 Pecan Creek Road. A short business meeting will be held and games of “42” dominoes or cards will be played. Members are encouraged to bring snacks or desserts to share and drinks of their choice.

    Fredericksburg lost to Falls City, 39-36, and Decatur, 27-26, and beat Childress, 28-27, in pool play at the 7-on-7 State Tournament on Thursday in College Station. Fredericksburg lost the tie breakers to Childress on points and Decatur on head-to-head to finish fourth in the pool. They began consolation bracket play against East Bernard at 8 a.m. this morning.

    • Fredericksburg’s Major Softball All-Stars lost to Greater Helotes last night, 10-0. Fredericksburg will play Eagle Pass in an elimination game at 7 p.m. tonight at Old Fair Park. Winner plays Greater Helotes in a potential championship game.

    • The Fredericksburg Minor Softball All-Stars played Eagle Pass and lost, 1-0, last night. Fredericksburg will play an elimination game against Alamo Heights at 9 p.m. tonight in Eagle Pass.

    • The Junior All-Stars won, 12-2, against Alamo Heights last night and will play the winner of an Alamo Heights-Uvalde elimination game for a chance to win the Texas West Section 3 championship at 6 p.m. Saturday night in Alamo Heights.
