
News • Pilot Knob Extension Education Club is meeting this morning at the Gillespie County Agricultural Extension Building. A club member will present, “To Toss or Not to Toss,” a State Extension Education Association program. • Fredericksburg Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7105 will conduct a Flag Day ceremony at 3 p.m. today at the post home. Boy Scout Troop 135 will provide the color guard for the ceremony. Following the posting of the colors, along with the playing of the National Anthem and reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance, officials will discuss the flag and its history. The Boy Scouts will also conduct a flag destruction ceremony for unserviceable United States flags. • The 30th Annual Hill Country Antique Tractor and Gas Engine Club Show will be at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds on Friday and Saturday. Show times are from 2 p.m. to sunset on Friday and then from 8 a.m. to sunset on Saturday. Specific events those two days will be from 3-6 p.m. on Friday and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Admission is $6 for adults, while children 12 years old and under are free. Two-day passes for $10 will also be available. • Dorothy M. Bland, dean of the University of North Texas’ Frank W. and Sue Mayborn School of Journalism, will be the Werlin Workshop presenter when Press Women of Texas hold their annual spring conference in Fredericksburg Friday through Sunday. Her topic will be “Media Ethics in the Digital Age.” The Werlin Workshop will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, immediately following an 11 a.m. luncheon at Andy’s Steak and Seafood Grille. • Doll-making, games from the past and a concert will be featured at Pioneer Museum on Saturday. Programs for students ages six to 12 years of age will be offered from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Participants can make a knot doll from fabric that requires hand sewing. Other activities include playing washers, making a Native American game called “stick and string,” necklace making from native plants for boys and girls, a spin game and a fluster stalk (whisper stick). The cost of knot dolls or other activities is $15 per participant. A Sousa Concert for Flag Day is scheduled to begin at noon on Saturday and continue until 2 p.m. The five-piece Hill Country Brass Band will begin playing at 12:30 p.m. The charge for the concert is the regular museum admission of $5 for adults and $3 for ages 6-17. Anyone younger than six is admitted free of charge. • Willow City and Crabapple historic schools will host open houses from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday as part of the Friends of Gillespie County Country Schools tour. Willow City School’s open house on Saturday will be the school’s first public showing of its recently-restored stage curtain. More than 50 volunteers worked on this project with funding provided by the City of Fredericksburg Hotel Occupancy Tax funds, the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country, the Pedernales Creative Arts Alliance, the Friends of Gillespie County Country Schools and several personal individual donations. • Rev. Setan and Randa Lee will speak at the Sunday worship service at Hill Country Evangelical Free Church which begins at 9:30 a.m. After the church service, We CAN will hold an informal special presentation in the sanctuary at 11 a.m. to tell stories of their mission trip. • First Baptist Church Harper is hosting guest speaker Stan Meyer on Sunday at the 11 a.m. worship service. Meyer is from Jews for Jews and will speak on “The Shema Message.” • Luckenbach will host a party and concert on Sunday to celebrate country performer Waylon Jennings and to raise funds for The Good Samaritan Center in Fredericksburg. The 12th annual Waylon’s Birthday Bash gets underway at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is a suggested $10 donation to The Good Samaritan Center. Held annually since 2004, Waylon’s Birthday Bash this year features performances by Thomas Michael Riley, Drew Kennedy and Josh Grider. • The National Museum of the Pacific War will host its annual Flag Day program on Sunday with two events. The museum will host the Nimitz Junior Corps at 1 p.m. on Sunday. This event will teach kids the history behind many of the flags the museum has on display. They will also get a special tour of the gallery. The price for this event is $5 per student and space is limited. Bush Gallery. • Pecan Creek Community Club is scheduled to meet on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at 3410 Pecan Creek Road. All members are encouraged to attend the meeting to help clean up for upcoming rentals. The group will be trying out their new barbecue pit with spare ribs. Members are asked to bring a side dish or dessert and drinks of their choice. If time permits, the club will play “42” dominoes or cards and have a short meeting.
