A first-time winner and a six-time winner were crowned Sunday afternoon as Sam Frantzen won the centerfire division and Dean Marquardt won the rimfire division to be crowned Schuetzenkoenige at the 118th Annual Gillespie County Schuetzenfest at the Bear Creek Shooting Range.
Frantzen won his first centerfire title with a score of 96 as the Hubertus Shooting Club won both Schuetzenkoenige titles at the yearly shooting competition.
In the rimfire division, Marquardt, also from Hubertus, won his sixth individual award with a score of 90.
The centerfire king’s trophy was donated by Stroeher and Son/Stroeher and Olfers, and the revolving trophy was donated by Fritztown Diesel.
In the rimfire division, the king’s trophy was donated by Security State Bank and Trust, and the revolving trophy by Moellering Construction.
Hosted by the Hubertus Shooting Club at the Bear Creek Shooting Range, the 118th shoot drew 124 shooters.
Winning top honors in the centerfire division was the Grapetown Shooting Club with a 553.
Team members included Jamie Worrell, Charles Whitten, Curtis Hodge, Andy Jacoby, Johnny Duecker, Darryl Smith and Leland Ottmers.
Coming in second in the centerfire team standings was Bear Creek with a 549, while Tivydale finished third with a 536.
Hubertus and Barons Creek tied for fourth place with a 533, while Scharfschuetzen shot a 514.
In the rimfire division, Hubertus came out on top with a 257.
