Young marksmen will be putting their skills and knowledge to the test on Saturday, Feb. 28, when they compete in the 2015 Gillespie County 4-H BB Gun Competition.

Approximately 80 shooters in the first grade through 15 years of age will be competing in the county-level event in the Show Barn at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds.

The competition begins at 8 a.m. and includes shooting in four positions — sitting, standing, prone and kneeling — and a written test.

A hamburger lunch will be served around noon and the awards presentation will follow the meal at around 1:30 p.m.

This year marks the 30th year for the local BB gun competition.

Ray Hobbs, president, CEO and chairman of the board of Daisy Outdoor Products, has been invited to attend Saturday’s competition.

Again this year, an Orion scoring system will be used. In this system, scoring is done by computer, rather than manually.

Awards will be given in each age group as well as for the top three overall shooters.
