Sales records continue to be broken as buyers once again dug deep into their pockets to support local exhibitors at the 2015 Gillespie County 4-H and FFA Livestock Show and Auction.
Buyers paid a record $941,552 for 308 units at the sale, held in the Exhibition Hall at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds on Saturday.
The sale culminated the annual youth livestock show, which opened on Thursday and continued with a full judging schedule on Friday.
In 2014, buyers paid a record $667,016 for 299 units and in 2013, a record $523,227 was paid for 297 units.
“Our sale was very successful again with an outstanding group of buyers rewarding the youth for their hard work throughout the year,” said Blaine Hahn, president of the Gillespie County Youth Livestock Show Association.
He said, “It was great to see so many individual and syndicate buyers being so generous at the sale.”
“The sales committee did a great job keeping the intensity level up throughout the sale to the very last exhibitor,” Hahn said.
Serving as auctioneer was Charlie Jones of Blanco.
Sold in the premium auction were the following:
•Broilers — 42 pens of broilers brought $85,250.
•Turkeys — Buyers paid $46,670 or 17 turkeys.
