It was a school first when the Fredericksburg High School drama department advanced to the University Interscholastic League (UIL) 3A One-Act Play State Meet after receiving a unanimous first place finish for their production of William Gibson’s “The Miracle Worker” at the Region IV-3A competition.
Another school first happened for Fredericksburg Monday evening as FHS won their first state championship, with Olivia McGowen receiving Best Actress and the Samuel French Award for her portrayal of Annie Sullivan.
“I never have enjoyed a performance more than I enjoyed that night,” FHS director Jacki Maenius said. “It could have not been done any better. I told them that there was no one that could do better than they did. Somebody could do as well, but nobody could do better.”
Chandler Runnels, who played Helen Keller, was named to the All-Star Cast, while Courtney LeFan, who played Kate Keller, was named to the Honorable Mention All-Star Cast.
