There were fewer dirndls and lederhosen, but a good-sized crowd enjoyed Night In Old Fredericksburg on Saturday at its return to the Gillespie County Fair Grounds.
Carey Durst, chairman of the Gillespie County Fair and Festivals board, said the event went off well for its return to the fair grounds.
“I thought it went really well. We didn’t have a lot of time to plan and do all the things we wanted, but we did have a few new contests and activities. We had good crowds on both Saturday and Sunday,” he said.
Following a day of horse racing, crowds stayed for the food, games, barbecue cookoff, a carnival, music and even “team goat roping,” a new event. Durst said that built-in crowd helped attendance, given that the location is away from the busy downtown area.
“It helps having races on the grounds. NIOF would always capture a few extra people, having it in the middle of town, but I think we always had larger crowds for the races anyhow,” Durst said. “In the past, we had worked with the Chamber of Commerce to cooperate to allow dual admission at the races and admission to NIOF.”
