• Commencement ceremonies will be held tonight at 8 p.m. at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds for the Fredericksburg High School Class of 2014. Leading the class are Mattie Lastovica, valedictorian, and David Hardin, salutatorian.
• Harper High School Class of 2014 will graduate during ceremonies tonight starting at 7:30 p.m. in the Harper Gym. Valedictorian is Madison Lang while Taylor Reid is the salutatorian.
• Pilot Knob Extension Education Club will meet this morning at 9:30 a.m. at the Gillespie County Extension Building.
• Fifteen galleries are participating in the First Friday Art Walk Fredericksburg celebration today from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
• The community is invited to join Fredericksburg Elementary School at a reception this afternoon from 3-5 p.m. in the cafeteria to honor Janet Rabke and Glenda Fritz on their retirement. Refreshments will be served and a program is set for 4 p.m.
• Willow City Community Club will meet tonight at the Willow City School Building/Community Center. Members are asked to bring finger foods and snacks for the light meal to be served at 7 p.m. After that, there will be a short business meeting at 7:30 p.m. followed by games of “42” dominoes and socializing.
• Antiques, classics, street rods and late models will be featured at the 10th Annual Open Car Show on Saturday at Marktplatz. Hosted by the Fredericksburg Masonic Lodge, the show opens at 9 a.m. and continues until 4 p.m. There is no admission charge to the general public to view the car show or enjoy the live entertainment provided by Mike Blakely. There will also be a silent auction, food and beverages and a prize drawing.
•The Lyndon B. Johnson State Park and Historic Site at Stonewall in conjunction with the Fredericskburg Walmart will host the annual Fishing Day on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. The fishing clinic will be held along the banks of the Pedernales River just below the LBJ State Park Resource Center (Scout Hut) on Ranch Road 1. Those attending will have the opportunity to fish, learn more about the sport and win prizes.
• Pioneer Handwerkers will meet on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at Pioneer Museum.
• A 40-plus family garage sale will be held Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Joseph's Halle. Proceeds from the sale will go to help pay for college tuition for a Ugandan student. Those attending the sale will also have a chance to meet Everce Nyamahunge, the student who needs funding to continue her studies at Cottey College.
• St. John Lutheran Community Association’s annual business meeting will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Sunday School Building in Crabapple. All former members of the church and/or their descendents, prospective new members, friends and neighbors are welcome to attend.
• A gospel music concert featuring Maxine Mayers of Sisterdale will be presented at First Baptist Church on Sunday at 6 p.m. The concert will benefit Kyle and Becky Klemcke, local school teachers, who are moving to Welkom, South Africa in September to serve as missionaries at an orphanage. The Klemckes will be in attendance at the concert and will talk about their decision to move. Admission to the concert is free but an offering will be taken up at the end of the concert to help raise money for travel expenses.
