A group of volunteers gathered on Saturday morning to build a wheelchair ramp for a local man through the Texas Ramp Project.
The ramp, built for Louis Castaneda, is the first to be built in Gillespie County through the Texas Ramp Project.
“The Texas Ramp Project pays for all of the materials,” explained John Laine, executive director. “We never bill a client for their ramp.”
Laine explained that the program covers all of Gillespie County, not just inside the Fredericksburg city limits.
However, a client must be referred for a ramp by a third party health care provider or agency. “We do not accept direct referrals from families or friends,” Laine said.
Referrals are made via the organization’s website at texasramps.org. Select “San Antonio” at the top of the homepage and then “Referrals” once in the San Antonio pages.
