The Fredericksburg Independent School District board of trustees heard updates on the Gillespie County Learning Center and capital project timelines, and it approved the purchase of wireless tablets for next year’s freshman class at its Feb. 10 regular meeting.

The meeting marked the first one presided over by new superintendent Dr. Eric Wright.

Update on GCLC

GCLC Principal Blaine Hahn announced that 17 students graduated last year from the GCLC and that, so far this year, about five students have dropped out.

“That is unfortunate,” Hahn said of the drop outs. “You’re going to have those, but we want to shoot for zero all the time.”

Hahn estimated about 20 to 25 students will graduate from the GCLC this year.

“We’re hoping for an even higher number,” he said. “If we don’t achieve that, it’s not because we didn’t try to reach out to them and let them achieve their goals.”

When asked the difference in diplomas between Fredericksburg High School and the GCLC, Hahn replied that GCLC graduates can still go to college but must start at two-year colleges or technical schools and demonstrate they can handle the academic workload.
