By Matt Ward —

After months of private discussion between the largest property tax collecting entities in Gillespie County, the Fredericksburg Independent School District, City of Fredericksburg and Harper ISD will all consider switching a change in tax collection amid concerns with the Gillespie County Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office.

City Manager Kent Myers and City Finance Director Brad Kott shared their concerns with the Fredericksburg City Council during a special meeting on Monday, Dec. 30.

“Accuracy of the (tax) reports is in question at times,” Myers said. “The timeliness of the reports and the timeliness of the collections are not always there.”

“There have been other problems, other irregularities that have been communicated by the other entities during this process not specific to us,” Kott said. “Every time you have that, I think the group as a whole has lost trust in that office in collecting those taxes.”

The Fredericksburg Independent School District is expected to discuss the topic at their next regular meeting on Jan. 13.

A complete report on the tax collection issues will be published in the Jan. 8 edition of the Fredericksburg Standard-Radio Post.
