Despite increased rates on all utilities within the past 16 months, City of Fredericksburg water and sewer customers could see rates hiked again as soon as this summer as the city council continues to review fees in an ongoing utility rate study.
On Tuesday, council members received an update on the progress of the study — currently at 80 percent completion — from Tony Bagwell of HDR Engineering, the first of three visits from the city’s utility rate consultant.
The next council briefing is expected in early July, where the consultant’s rate model will be completed. This will allow the council to discuss potential rates and project expected revenue generation.
A third meeting is slated for late July, where the new rates will be voted on by the council.
After seven years without a rate increase, the city raised rates in all four utilities — electric, water, sewer and garbage — over the course of 2012.
