Fredericksburg is starting to become a place where movies aren’t just seen and discussed, but also made.
This year’s annual Hill Country Film Festival might be in the books, but this summer, Gillespie County will be the setting for a movie about Alzheimer’s Disease — from the perspective of the victim.
Houston native Jennifer Fox wrote the screenplay and will direct “This Man’s June,” her first feature film to direct.
Filming is scheduled to begin June 15 and wrap on Aug. 4.
“I live and work in New York but I grew up in Texas and I always wanted to make movies here,” Fox said. “There is something about Texas that will always run deep in my bones. Not only does it feel like home, but I think the Texas topography is its own character in this movie. It’s unruly, gruff, beautiful, puts up a fight.”
Almost all of the movie will be filmed in Fredericksburg, with some filming at Laity Lodge and Ford Bend (where her parents live). Fox chose Fredericksburg because she became friends with Robert and Claudia Feuge at an artist retreat at Laity Lodge.
“Robert builds beautiful barns out of oak wood, and once I saw their house, I knew that had to be the place that this story was told,” she said. “They have been very generous in letting us invade their lives with this. I hope we can do their craftsmanship justice in the cinematography of this film. We have a wonderful director of photography named Patrick Hackeling who has won numerous awards for his films. I am confident that he will make this movie look great.”
