Pending the result of a vote tomorrow, Doss Consolidated Common School District might soon exist only in history books and the memories of its former students and teachers.
The Doss CCSD board of trustees will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 2, at the Doss Community Center to vote on whether or not to close the school permanently.
Administrative consultant Dr. Terry Smith will make presentations outlining the district’s declining enrollment.
Prior to that, the trustees will host a public forum 6 p.m., where county residents will be invited to speak on the issue.
“We have had our enrollment declining over past few years,” said Terri Criswell, administrative assistant at Doss. “We will discuss all the issues in the public forum. We encourage people to attend the meeting and give their opinion.”
Criswell said they don’t have any more in-district students attending Doss School, and their enrollment over the past few years, has been sustained by transfer students from Fredericksburg.
In the 2011-2012 school year, Criswell said, they began with 29 students (21 of which were transfers from Fredericksburg).
