Youths take honors at Harper Livestock Show

Stock show season got off to an early start in Gillespie County on Saturday, Dec. 12, for some local exhibitors who competed in the 2015 Harper Livestock Show.

Eligible exhibitors included members of the Harper FFA, Harper 4-H, Doss 4-H or first through 12th grade students enrolled in the Harper Independent School District who are members of a 4-H club.

Entries totaled 166 animals and included two breeding sheep, 23 market lambs, 45 goats, 64 swine, three heifers, five steers and 24 Angora goats.

All of the judging took place on Saturday at the Show Barn in Harper, starting with the Angora goats and continuing with the lambs, hogs, goats, steers and heifers.

Jason Marek, an agriculture science teacher at Blanco High School, served as judge for the show, evaluating all divisions except for the Angora goats, which were judged by Bonnie Naumann.

The event was sponsored by the Harper Stock Show Committee, the Harper High School Agriculture Department and the Gillespie County AgriLife Extension agents.

Following are the results for the various divisions:

ANGORA GOATS

Commercial Kid — 1. Bubba Wallace and 2. Bubba Wallace. 3. Kinley Crenwelge.

Commercial Yearling — 1. Bubba Wallace and 2. Bubba Wallace.

Commercial Aged — 1. Bubba Wallace.

Champion Commercial — Bubba Wallace (Yearling).

Reserve Champion Commercial — Bubba Wallace (Aged).

Registered Doe Kid — 1. Bubba Wallace; 2. Bubba Wallace; 3. Kinley Crenwelge; 4. Clark Crenwelge.
