      • St. Rose Society of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Stonewall is hosting its annual bake sale this morning at Weinheimer and Son Store in Stonewall. The sale continues until the baked goods sell out.

      • New exhibits, demonstrations, receptions and more are planned by local galleries taking part in the First Friday Art Walk Fredericksburg celebration today.

      • Harper American Legion Post 650 will sponsor its annual turkey shoot today from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Harper Community Park. There will also be a paddle wheel with a large selection of prizes for the winners. The auxiliary will be offering food and drinks throughout the day.

      • The 64th annual Jaycees Turkey Shoot continues today starting at 10 a.m. at the Tivydale Shooting Range. A live turkey head shot, a sight-in range and a separate archery division will allow hunters some target practice ahead of general season which begins Saturday.

      • Willow City Community Club will meet at 6:45 p.m. tonight at the Willow City School and Community Center. Members are invited to bring finger foods and snacks for the light meal to be served at 6:45 p.m. A short business meeting begins at 7:30 p.m., followed by games of “42” dominoes and fellowship.

      • The general white-tail deer hunting season opens on Saturday.

      • The final bake sale of the autumn season for Pedernales Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) will take place Saturday and Sunday at Chase Bank. Cakes, cookies, breads and other holiday-themed treats have been prepared by a host of PAWS’ volunteer bakers.

      • Handmade jewelry, nativities, baskets and other gifts from around the world will be available at the Alternative Gift Market hosted by Memorial Presbyterian Church on Saturday. The Alternative Gift Market will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the church’s fellowship hall. Proceeds from the market will go to support organizations that promote human dignity and social justice and make a difference in people’s lives. The event is open to the public and there is no cost to attend. Purchases can be made using checks or cash only, credit cards are not accepted. 

      • Harper Volunteer Fire Department and EMS will host their annual benefit fish fry from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the HVFD station. Cost for the plate of food, which includes trimmings, is by donation. Diners can eat at the fire station or get their food to go. The drive-through take out line will be behind the Baptist church. A prize drawing will follow the meal. Tickets for the prize drawing are $1 each or six for $5. Tickets will be sold at the event. In advance, prize drawing tickets are available from department members as well as at Waldo’s, Bode’s and Dauna’s, all in Harper. Prize drawing tickets are also available in Fredericksburg at Sears and at Bee Creek Communications.

      • Doss Community Club will serve chili, beans and tamales on Saturday from 5-9 p.m. at the Doss Community Center. Cost of the dine-in meals is by donation but the to-go plates will have a set charge. Tea and lemonade are included with the meal and people are welcome to BYOB. Desserts will be furnished by members of the community. Scotty and Linda Scott will provide musical entertainment.

      • Turner Hall is hosting a Fall Hunters’ Dance on Saturday featuring the  music of the Almost Patsy Cline Band. Admission is $10 at the door. The dance will be held from 8 p.m. until midnight at the Turner Hall. Doors open at 7 p.m. Beer, wine and soda will be available for purchase.  

      • Mark Hierholzer will present a performance of piano improvisations at 3 p.m. Sunday at Hill Country Evangelical Free Church. Admission for the concert is $10 but no more than $30 per family.

Sports

      • Fredericksburg High School varsity football will play its final game of the regular season tonight when they travel to Taylor. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.

      • The FHS girls' cross country team will be competing at the UIL State 4A Cross Country Meet on Saturday at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock. The 4A girls' division runs at 9:40 a.m.

      • Fredericksburg High School varsity volleyball will play in the UIL Region 4 4A area playoffs on Saturday. The Billies will play the Zapata Hawks at 4 p.m. at Cotulla High School.

      • FHS varsity and JV girls' basketball teams are scrimmaging Mason and Kerrville this afternoon starting at 4:30 p.m. in the FHS Gym.

      • The FHS swim team is due to compete in the Small Team Winter Classic in Burnet on Saturday.

      • Harper High School varsity football will travel to Brackett tonight for a 7:30 p.m. game.

      • Harper High School volleyball was eliminated from the playoffs when they lost to Weimar, 25-14, 25-18, 25-21, on Thursday night in Boerne.

      • Harper High School boys' and girls' cross country teams are running in the UIL State Cross Country Meet on Saturday at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock. The 2A division girls run at 2:40 p.m. and the boys run at 3:10 p.m.

      • Heritage varsity football will be on the road to play the San Antonio Believers at 7:30 p.m. tonight.
