Voters in Gillespie County and around the state will have their say in a constitutional amendment election, set for Tuesday, Nov. 3.
There are seven proposed constitutional amendments for Texas voters to consider.
A special eight-page Voters Guide presented by the nonpartisan League of Women Voters is included in this edition of the Standard-Radio Post. The guide poses arguments for and against each amendment.
Individual propositions, in brief, are:
Prop. 1 — Raise homestead exemption from $15,000 to $25,000 on property taxes.
Prop. 2 — Exemption of all or part of property taxes for surviving spouses of totally disabled veterans.
Prop. 3 — Repeals amendment requiring elected state officers to reside in the state capital city.
Prop. 4 — Permits professional team charitable foundations to conduct charitable raffles.
Prop. 5 — Authorizes counties with populations of 7,500 or less to perform private road construction and maintenance.
Prop. 6 — Recognizes right of people to hunt, fish and harvest wildlife subject to laws that promote wildlife conservation.
Prop. 7 — Dedicates certain sales and use tax to the state highway fund for non-tolled roadways and certain transportation-related debt.
