
News • Wrede Bear Creek Community Club will meet at 6 p.m. tonight at the school house at 3828 Texas 16 South. This meeting will begin 30 minutes earlier than usual. The Ottmers and Ottes are hosting with hot dogs and a choice of toppings. Those attending are invited to bring fruit or dessert. Water will be available, or those attending can bring a drink of their choice. • Fredericksburg Theater Company will present two movies this weekend — one a classic film and the other a locally-shot short film. “Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo” will be shown 7:30 p.m. tonight while “The Return” will be shown 3 p.m., Sunday. Both movies will be at the Steve W. Shepherd Theater. • Residents who want to learn how to minimize their carbon footprint can take a Green Home Tour on Saturday to learn about green living practices. Fredericksburg Shines’ third annual Fredericksburg and Gillespie County fall tour of homes will spotlight electric cars and 10 energy efficient homes from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets for the event are $25 and include a tour booklet and map. They can be purchased at Memorial Presbyterian Church, ProBuild, The Peach Basket and Judy’s Liquor or online at www.fbgshines.org/green-home-tour/. • A run/walk, chili cook-off, quilt show and auction, food, music and more will highlight the 28th Annual Lutheran Fall Festival from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday at Marktplatz. This fall festival is a fundraiser for Cross Trails Ministry. The Lutheran Fall Festival 5K through Fredericksburg begins at 9 a.m. at Marktplatz. This is a chip-timed event with various categories, and participants can run or walk. • The Admiral Nimitz Foundation’s annual symposium will be from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Steve W. Shepherd Theater. This year’s theme is “In Stealth We Trust: Special Forces and Their Origins in WWII.” This will be the second and final symposium on special forces. Tickets are now available and can be purchased at the door, the day of the event. • Fredericksburg Radio Control Model Airplane Club will meet at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Fredericksburg EMS Building. Associated with the Academy of Model Aeronautics, District VIII, the club is for those interested in building and flying remote control aircraft. • The Amputee Support Group will meet at 10 a.m. on Saturday in the Fellowship Hall of Memorial Presbyterian Church. This support group was formed by amputees and is independent of any hospital or organization. • Lyndon B. Johnson State Park and Historic Site at Stonewall will have its annual Seed Stomp from 1:30-3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at the park. The Seed Stomp is free and open to the public. Everyone is invited to scatter and “stomp” wildflower seeds around the state park. Native seed mixtures are provided by the state park. • Rally Day at Resurrection Lutheran Church will be held Sunday. A welcome back hour for Sunday school youth and adults will be held from 9-10 a.m. and will include activities and breakfast. • The Optimist Club of Fredericksburg will host an NFL Punt, Pass and Kick event 2 p.m. on Sunday at Fredericksburg High School. Entry is free for boys and girls ages six through 15, as of Dec. 31. Winners of each division will advance to the sectional competition in San Antonio. Only soft-soled shoes are allowed. Cleats are not allowed. Participants must submit a photocopy of their birth certificate at the time of competition to compete. Birth certificates submitted in previous years will be on file. Contestants can sign up online at www.nflppk.com/competitions/register/index/22214. • Fredericksburg Music Club will open its 2015-2016 concert series on Sunday with a performance by pianist Sean Chen. Set to begin at 3 p.m. in the sanctuary of Fredericksburg United Methodist Church, the concert is free although goodwill offerings are welcome. Sports • Fredericksburg High School varsity football will travel to Llano tonight for a 7:30 p.m. game. • Fredericksburg High School volleyball teams will play at San Angelo Central tonight. The varsity plays at 5 p.m. followed by the freshmen and JV at 6:30 p.m. • Fredericksburg High School, Fredericksburg Middle School, Harper High School and Harper Junior High cross country teams will all compete in the Fredericksburg Invitational on Saturday at Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park. The JV boys run at 8: 15.m., the varsity boys at 8:45 a.m., the JV girls at 9:15 a.m., the varsity girls at 9:45 a.m., the 7th boys/girls at 10:15 a.m. and the 8th boys/girls at 10:45 a.m. • The FHS varsity tennis team will play Abilene Wylie at Mason High School at 9 a.m. on Saturday. • Harper High School varsity football will travel to Sonora tonight for a 7:30 p.m. game. • Harper volleyball will be in Leakey tonight where the JV plays at 4 p.m. and the varsity at 5 p.m. • Heritage School football will host San Antonio Feast tonight at 7:30 p.m. • Heritage cross country teams will run on Saturday at Tecaboca beginning at 9 a.m. • St. Mary's football will play Holy Spirit on the road Saturday at 6 p.m. • St. Mary's volleyball is playing in the St. Luke tournament through Saturday.
