
News • The City of Fredericksburg’s Parks and Recreation department held a public meeting yesterday to receive comments from citizens about future improvements in the city’s parks system. The public can also bring comments to City Hall or submit thoughts online at www.fbgtx.org. • Fredericksburg Farmer's Market will be open today from 4-7 p.m. on Marktplatz. • Fredericksburg German Club will resume regular weekly meetings today following a short summer break. The German Club meets at 12:15 p.m. every Thursday at the Golden Hub. Anyone interested in speaking or learning German is invited to attend. Over the course of a year the club discusses current events, reads German literature and follows a lesson curriculum from a variety of German text books. • Gillespie County exhibitors are reminded that all lambs and goats must be validated in order to show at any of the major 2016 livestock shows and the Gillespie County Youth Livestock Show. Tags must be ordered by today by contacting the Gillespie County Extension Office. • The 127th Gillespie County Fair opens today and continues through Sunday at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds. There is no admission to the grounds tonight and the carnival will be open. Those with agricultural and home products entries are reminded to turn them in today from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Exhibition Hall. Judging starts at 6:30 p.m. • Nine musicians will compete in the 34th Annual Country Showdown tonight as part of the 127th Gillespie County Fair. The contest starts at 8:30 p.m. at the outdoor dance pavilion at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds. Sports • Fredericksburg High School football teams will scrimmage Lago Vista on the road tonight. The freshmen and JV will play at 5 p.m. and the varsity will take the field at 6 p.m. • FHS volleyball teams are hosting Comfort tonight in the FHS Gym. The freshmen play at 5:30 p.m. followed by the JV at 6:30 p.m. and the varsity at 7:30 p.m. • The FHS tennis teams are playing in the FHS/Tivy Team Tournament today and Friday in Fredericksburg and in Kerrville. Play begins at 9 a.m. both days. • Heritage School volleyball is hosting OLH tonight staring at 5:30 p.m. with the JV followed by the varsity at 6:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church Gym. • The Fredericksburg Ladies Golf Association will meet today at Lady Bird Johnson Golf Course.
