| News • Fredericksburg City Council will hold their next regular meeting at 6 p.m. tonight at the Gillespie County Law Enforcement Center. Topics include a public hearing on the city’s proposed 2015-2016 budget, tax rates, additional hotel occupancy tax funding for the Fredericksburg Convention and Visitor Bureau and comments regarding Old Fair Park. • Students at St. Mary's School returned to the classrooms this morning. Students were welcomed with a pep rally. • Fredericksburg Elementary School will host a “Back to School Celebration” tonight. Parents with first and second grade students can visit their child’s classrooms from 5-6 p.m. Parents of students in third through fifth grade can visit classrooms from 6-7 p.m. Also on hand that night will be representatives from the Parent Teacher Organization, Fredericksburg Academic Boosters, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, FISD Transportation and more. • Fredericksburg Theater Company will host auditions for the Thornton Wilder drama “Our Town” at 7 p.m. tonight and again on Tuesday night at the Steve W. Shepherd Theater. Performance dates for “Our Town” are Friday through Sunday, Oct. 16-Nov. 1, and Thursday, Oct. 29. All roles are available for audition. Auditions will be conducted by cold readings from the script. Scripts for “Our Town” can now be checked out at the theater’s office. Checkout period is 48 hours, and office hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Sports • Fredericksburg High School varsity volleyball team finished 5-4 over the weekend at the Austin ISD tournament. • FHS tennis defeated San Antonio O'Connor on Friday in a rain-shortened match. • Harper High School varsity volleyball went 3-2 at the Wimberley tournament on Friday and Saturday.
