
News • The National Museum of the Pacific War will host an End of World War II Commemoration at 9 a.m. this morning in the Memorial Courtyard. George P. Bush, grandson of former President George H.W. Bush, will be guest speaker. The commemoration is free and open to the public, and is in conjunction with the Austin-based Veterans Land Board. • St. Mary's School is hosting a meet-the-teacher event from 1-3 p.m. today. • Cherry Spring Community Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. tonight at the Cherry Spring Schoolhouse/Community Center. Fellowship, “42” dominoes and other games will follow a potluck meal. Drinks, plates and eating utensils will be furnished. • Fredericksburg Theater Company will open “Greater Tuna” tonight at the Steve W. Shepherd Theater. The Texas-based comedy will run Friday through Sunday this weekend and next weekend. Jaston Williams, who co-created “Greater Tuna,” will attend tonight's performance. An opening night gala begins at 6:30 p.m. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and at 2 p.m. on Sundays. Opening-night seats are $35. Regular admission is $29 for adults and $12 for children 17 and under. Race day registration is $30. The 5K run is being held to raise awareness for spinal muscular atrophy. Packet pick-up will be at Anytime Fitness in Fredericksburg from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. today. • The Fredericksburg RC Model Airplane Club will meet at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Fredericksburg EMS Building. • St. John Lutheran Community Association of Crabapple will hold its annual business meeting at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Sunday School Building in Crabapple. Discussion of the annual homecoming worship service planned for Sunday, Sept. 27, will be an agenda item along with any new business that may come before the meeting. All former members of the St. John Lutheran Church and/or their descendants, prospective new members, friends and neighbors are invited to attend. • Pecan Creek Community Club will meet Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at 3410 Pecan Creek Road. A short meeting will be held followed by games of “42” dominoes and “Hi 5” cards. Members are asked to bring snacks or desserts and drinks of their choice. • Anya Rylander-Jones, Ph.D, RMT, E-RYT, will lead a discussion, demonstration and sample experience of the Movements exercises and sacred dances of G.I. Gurdjieff at 3 p.m. on Sunday. The free demonstration will be held in the fellowship hall of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, and is open to the public. • University of Texas Exes will hold their Fall Scholarship Fundraiser at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Pioneer Museum. It will be a picnic and barbecue with members bringing a covered dish to share. The Texas Exes will have lawn games with team competition and a silent auction as well. A social and games start at 4:30 p.m. and the dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. Sports • Fredericksburg High School football teams will host a home scrimmage this morning against Medina Valley in the FHS Stadium. The varsity squads from both schools will kick off the festivities at 9 a.m. with the junior varsity and freshmen teams squaring off during organized breaks in the varsity scrimmage. • Fredericksburg High School varsity volleyball went 2-1 on Thursday in the Austin ISD Tournament. The Billies defeated Austin Travis, 25-16, 25-7; defeated Kyle Lehman, 25-15, 25-11, and lost to Arlington Lamar, 25-12, 25-11. The Billies advance to Division 1 Pool Play today and will play Liberty Hill at 9 a.m., Round Rock Stony Point at noon and Ann Richards at 1 p.m. at Austin Bowie High School. • The FHS tennis team is playing San Antonio O'Connor on the road today at 2 p.m. • Harper High School football teams will host a scrimmage against Rocksprings starting at 6 p.m. this evening in Harper. • Harper High School varsity volleyball is playing in the Wimberley Tournament today and Saturday.
